What a Website Actually Costs in India (2026, With Real Numbers)

From ₹3,800 template sites to ₹4 lakh e-commerce builds: what you get at every price level, and when the cheap option is genuinely the right call.

Ask five agencies what a website costs and you’ll get five numbers between ₹5,000 and ₹5,00,000, usually with no explanation of the difference. Here’s the explanation.

The price bands, honestly

BandWhat you actually get
₹3,800-₹10,000A template with your logo swapped in. The same site as hundreds of other businesses. Slow, and it rarely ranks.
₹10,000-₹40,000A customised template or basic WordPress build. Fine for a “digital visiting card.”
₹40,000-₹1,20,000Custom design, custom build, SEO foundations, speed discipline. Sites meant to bring you business.
₹1,50,000-₹4,00,000E-commerce or web applications: payments, catalogues, dashboards, integrations.
₹5,00,000+Custom platforms. If you’re here, you’re not reading pricing blogs.

The bands aren’t about greed. They’re about hours. A ₹5,000 site gets a few hours of a junior’s time. An ₹80,000 site gets weeks of design, writing, engineering and testing. Both are fairly priced for what they are. Problems start when one is sold as the other.

When the cheap option is genuinely right

We’ll say what most agencies won’t: if your customers find you entirely through referrals and WhatsApp, and the website exists so you look legitimate when someone Googles your name, a ₹10,000 site is enough. Spend the difference on inventory or ads.

Pay for the ₹40,000+ band only when the website has a job to do: ranking on Google for what you sell, converting ad traffic, taking bookings or orders. Then the extra cost is an investment with a return you can measure in enquiries.

Where quotes hide margin

Four things to check before signing anything:

  1. Who owns the domain? It must be registered in your name, in your account. Agencies that register it themselves are building a hostage situation for renewal time.
  2. What’s the renewal? Some ₹15,000 sites carry ₹12,000/year “maintenance” that’s really just hosting worth ₹3,000. Ask for the breakup.
  3. Is content included? “Website” quotes often exclude the actual writing. You discover this in week three.
  4. What’s the speed target? Ask for a Google PageSpeed score commitment in writing. A slow site loses the ranking and the visitor. Mobile users in India abandon pages that take over 3 seconds.
